Hola. We are driving up to Danbury, Connecticut right now to play a little rock club, called Larry’s. Last night was a New York slang term that I am bringing into my lexicon.

Rage: adj.  A great thing – i.e. a great show, a cool pair of combat boots, or eating delicious dumplings for like $3.

Anyway, I was told that our set was rage. I know that all the guys were happy with their performances. We owned it and the crowd was great. A lot of people left after Bones Royal, a band from NYC that just got done doing some dates with Fort Worth’s own Whiskey Folk Ramblers. Small world. But, then after our first song, people were lined up to come in; it was a great feeling. We met some hot twins that were really into it, but I think after one of them hit one of our friend’s boyfriend, words like Jersey trash were exchanged, we lost all of our prospects. The night just took off from there. We have a lot of Texas transplants that live in NYC, and it was a treat to get to hang with the Piper brothers (Google: The Lord Henry) along with Matt’s wife, Brooke and Marley’s girlfriend, Dinah. They flew up to see the show and visit friends. Anyway, there is so much to do and see, it overwhelms the senses in to best possible way. This is the first half of our NYC experiences.

We just finished up in Philadelphia, and are driving through the night to New York City. The last couple of shows have been good. We haven’t been playing to that many people, but I guess that’s why they call it paying your dues. We at e at Pat’s; it’s a well know cheesesteak institution in Philly. Apparently, there is competition between Pat’s and Gino’s. Pat’s is old school and Gino’s is newer and flashy, but it true Burning Hotels fashion we kicked it old school. We are very excited to get to NYC, it is a first for Wyatt and I. We have some old Texas friends that have relocated that we are going to be staying with in Brooklyn. We have some suits coming to the two shows, so we have to make them count. The experience of traveling together as a band has been amazing. We all but heads, but for the most part we are really enjoying each other. (Knock on wood)  Marley has been rereading Lonesome Dove, Matt has been reading a book about all the gamblers and gangsters that were once on Jacksboro highway in the 1940’s and 1950’s. (You don’t read books –Wyatt to Matt) Wyatt has been the DJ for the most part, enlightening us on what he refers to as his impeccable musical taste. I have been harnessing my iMovie skills for your viewing pleasure and read the newest issue of Flaunt with Mickey Rourke. Anyway, the road has been treating us well.

Hello all. We are in downtown Philadelphia. We are loving this city. The history is very apparent. The old buildings and small cramped streets are something we are not use to in Texas. We are all first time visitors, and really enjoying it. This is some footage from our show/night in Washington, DC. Cheers.

I am sitting in DC 9 in Washington, DC. The city is big, metropolitan, and busy. Gino and the Goons just played, and it was punk rock at it’s finest. 3 piece, lo-fi, but fun. Gliss, is loading onto the stage as I type. We played with them in Fort Worth as they toured to Texas. Great band, also a 3 piece,  2 guys one girl. They alternate playing different instruments. Very BRMC/My Bloody Valentine. Anyway, we have are catching up with our friend Lauren and her girlfriends who drove done from Baltimore. This city is the best one we have seen so far. It is a first time experience for everyone, to be in our nations capitol. We drove past the Pentagon, saw Washington monument, and will hopefully have a video up tomorrow. The U Street area seems like the place to be; small streets, little or no parking, shotgun style old town homes, and the street hustle.  Stay tuned. I do want to say big up to technology. It’s very convenitent/amazing that I can share this with everyone. (The two people who check this, thanks Mom) DSC00930DSC00924DSC00928DSC00931

Hello, this is the first update from our East coast tour. DFW.com made an inquiry to The Burning Hotels to chronicle our travels from the road, and we will be uploading a daily video blog to accompany our written blog.  We left Fort Worth on Friday afternoon en route to The Electro Lounge in Oklahoma City. Electro Lounge in OKC, is a great little bar, that usually does not host live music besides DJ sets, but it was their 8th anniversary. We were asked to play by our close friends Derek and Jonathan from The Pretty Black Chains. (We know them from their previous band The Stock Market Crash). The drive to Oklahoma is not a very scenic or interesting drive, but we had just past Tuner Falls, when we saw a convoy of trucks with extensive amounts of equipment strapped on to their roofs.  We were not quite sure what to make of this until we passed them. The lead car is apparently what Marley(Bass), called the S.I.G. I was not aware of the TV show called “Storm Chasers”, but we were in the presence of a group of reality storm chasers. (See Video Blog) We arrived to Electro where we were met with hugs and smiles from our boys from TPBC. The last time we played together was over a year ago in Austin. The club is small to be polite, but it was great. Balloons everywhere, and a really cool LED light screen on the back wall. The show had a house party mentality. No stage, just a face to face show where the band and audience are one. We had a great time playing. After we played, TPBC went on, and the party really started. The band has a Stooges/Artic Monkeys vibe, but their stage presence was spastic, pompous, and arrogant. I loved it. I haven’t been to a show, at least in a long time, in which the entire crowd is covered in beer from crazy fans just spewing/throwing cans around with no disregard of the person next to them. It was AMAZIING. It was an old fashion punk rock show, where the majority of the time at least one member of the band was in the crowd.  If you are ever in OKC and TPBC are playing, change your plans and go see them. The night ended with us sloppily loading out and walking to Derek and Jonathan’s apartment, where they graciously hosted us open arms. The next day we woke and went to Chico’s, a restaurant in the “rich” part of town. It was the worst meal the band and I, in agreement, have ever had. Shitty service, horrible Migas, and $8 house margaritas.  Oh well. You win some, you lose some. We  arrived in Norman, OK, where we were playing at The Opolis.  We stopped by Blackwatch Studios to visit our friend Chad Copelin, who owns/runs the studio. We recorded the drums for our upcoming record there. Bear Colony, from Arkansas were there recording their upcoming record. Nice guys. The Opolis is the venue where most touring bands play, like Cut Of Your Hands, Helio Sequence, Black Dice, etc. It’s a cool shotgun style venue, with good sound, It is owned by Mary Ann and Andy from the Starlight Mints. We headlined for a decent amount of people. It was a goodnight. We got up this morning and are now headed to Birmingham, Alabama . . .
